Bring in Your Biba….Calling all Biba fans!
Bring in your Biba Day
Brighton Museum & Art Gallery
Saturday 21 May 11am-3pm
Calling all Biba fans!
Brighton Museum is planning a major fashion exhibition for 2012 celebrating the work of Barbara Hulanicki and her iconic Biba label. This is YOUR chance to get involved. We want your Biba outfits, stories, accessories and memories.
Do you remember Brighton Biba? Did you ever eat Biba beans, or wear a Biba babygrow? Are you a collector, or were you there at the time? Come along and share your stories with us. We will be taking film footage to use in the exhibition and there will also be a chance to meet the curator of Fashion and Textiles and see some of the fabulous Biba outfits we have in the collection at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery
Drop-in throughout the day between 11am and 3pm
With its cutting edge yet affordable fashion, Barbara Hulanicki’s iconic Biba transformed the High Street shopping experience in the 1960s and 70s. Young working women shopped alongside models and celebrities, including Twiggy, Cher and the Rolling Stones. Art Deco, Victorian and Hollywood glamour all combined in striking, romantic and sensual designs.
This major fashion exhibition at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery celebrates the Biba lifestyle and also looks beyond Biba at Barbara Hulanicki’s later career, both as a fashion designer and as one of the most respected interior designers in the US.
