Dreamscapes in Pattern and Colour

Sarah Arnett is an acclaimed contemporary artist, illustrator, and designer whose practice spans fine art, textiles, and interiors. Celebrated for her fabulously eclectic aesthetic, she conjures worlds of colour and exoticism, busy pattern and bold ornament—a vision of pure escapism.
An attention to process lies at the heart of her work. Trained originally as a weaver and dyer, Sarah’s fascination with materials and making has evolved into a richly experimental practice. Today, working from her Brighton studio, she layers hand-drawn sketches with illustration, painting, and original photography to create intricately constructed dreamscapes.
Her process is meticulous. Every detail is hand-rendered—each feather, petal, or architectural flourish painstakingly built-up to form a composition of extraordinary depth and texture. These drawings are then fused with hand-painted backgrounds and photographic fragments, producing the surreal interplay of the real and the imagined that defines her work.
For Sarah, each artwork is more than an image: it is a story. Her compositions fuse the power of place with illusion and theatricality, like frozen tableaux caught between reality and reverie. Film characters, wild foliage, mystical animals, and architectural forms coexist in fantastical collages—immersive environments that invite the viewer to linger and lose themselves.
Sarah Arnett’s practice is one of pure invention: vibrant, layered, and alive with possibility. Her works are not just to be looked at, but to be entered—spaces of wonder, escape, and transformation.

Tapestries
Sarah Arnett’s work with weaving and Jacquard looms reflects a deep respect for traditional textile techniques. Trained in textiles Sarah started her practice in the dye lab and on the loom.
She integrates hand stitching and beading with the advanced capabilities of the Jacquard loom, creating textiles rich in detail, texture, and complexity. The precision and flexibility of the Jacquard loom allow her to translate these sources of inspiration into fabric and wall hangings with exceptional clarity and depth.
While Arnett values the heritage of textile craftsmanship, she fully embraces modern technology as a creative tool. The Jacquard loom, with its ability to produce highly detailed and sophisticated weaves, is central to her philosophy of uniting the old with the new.
Her recent Siren tapestries are available in a limited series of five, each one individually hand-embellished, making every piece a unique work of art.
