Open House

May in Brighton is alive with creativity—and nowhere is that more evident than at the Artists Open House Festival, the UK’s largest free art event. Now in its 43rd year, the festival showcases over 1,000 artists citywide. Among its standout venues is the vibrant and immersive open house hosted by acclaimed artist and designer Sarah Arnett.

Following her win as Artist of the Year and her design for the festival cover—seen across Brighton—Sarah’s Open House has become a celebrated highlight of the event, earning the title of Best Open House 2025.

More than just a gallery, Sarah’s Open House is a festival within a festival, offering visitors a rich and engaging experience that includes new artworks and collections by Sarah herself alongside works by carefully selected guest makers. Visitors can enjoy live music, DJ sets, and spoken word performances while relaxing with garden teas, homemade cakes, and even a pop-up gin bar. The atmosphere is enhanced by creative workshops, children’s art stations, and interactive mural painting that invite guests to take part and connect with the creative process.

Sarah describes the Open House as a place to take risks, get feedback, and connect personally with her work and design. It is a space where conversation, creativity, and community flourish, turning visitors into active participants rather than passive observers.
